Beach’s Summer of Renewal This Summer, June – Beginning of August, Lynn, Michelle and the girls will be gone on a renewal leave. The United Methodist Church offers these to pastors every seven years. It is a time to get refreshed, renewed, reconnected or whatever is really needed so that the minister can be come back and continue to pour themselves out in ministry. Lynn has never taken a renewal leave, and the SPRC, Church Council, District Superintendent and Annual Conference have given their permission for him to take one this summer. While Lynn is gone, Rev. Dr. Stacy Minger, will be preaching most of the Sundays. She is an Associate Professor of Preaching at Asbury Seminary and an ordained Elder in the West Michigan conference of the United Methodist Church. While Lynn and his family are away, Park will have people in place to make visits and take care of emergencies, as well as a group of people working on planning for the Fall season, other ministry planning and leading worship. The other blessing is that Edwina is around and she knows how to keep things going. Please keep Lynn and his family in your prayers, always – but especially during this season of renewal. Pray for God to take Lynn and his family deeper into His love, and to open their eyes and minds to receive even more fully His grace. If you have any questions, please feel free to talk with Lynn or Kati Ellis, our SPRC chair.
Picnic/Wedding Shower for Garrett and Donna
Jenny Adams and Laura Slaughter are hosting a wedding shower for Garrett and Donna this Sunday during our church picnic. We have reserved a shelter at Idle Hour park, located behind Southland Church on Richmond Road and will meet there after worship service. This will be a potluck, so please bring a dish to share based on following letters that your last name begins with: A-F bring side dish; G-L bring salad; M-S bring drinks; T-Z bring desserts. Jenny has ordered a half sheet cake, so if you want to bring a dessert, may we suggest that you choose something that will allow variety.
Garrett and Donna are registered at Macy's and Target. There are links to the registries on their wedding website.
The Children's Sunday School Classes are studying the apostle Paul- from his amazing transformation on the road to Damascus to his missionary journeys and support of the early church.
As part of this study, they would like to ask for your help with a missions project for a United Methodist church and community ministry in Alaska. Like Paul wrote letters to churches, they invite you to write a short letter or note of encouragement to the Willow UMC missionary church in Willow, Alaska.
The attached brochure from Willow UMC with give you more info about them and the people that they serve. For example, food cost there is 31 percent above the national average, so the church began a food pantry. They also have a community garden project and a firewood ministry.
Please put your letter in the box they have decorated at the rear of the sanctuary. They will collect these over several weeks and then mail them to the church.
For every note you write, they will add a leaf to our tree, also in the rear of our sanctuary. Help them celebrate spring, new life, growth and change! May God's church continue to grow!
This summer, we will be combining our 9AM and 11AM worship services and it will begin at 10:30AM in the sanctuary. Sunday school classes will start at 9:15AM. We hope that you will be able to join us for both! The new schedule begins on May 27th.
We are excited to announce that Rev. Stacy Minger will be delivering the sermon during many of the Sundays this coming summer! Stacy is a professor at Asbury Seminary in Midway, KY.
