Our vision is that Park church is to be a diverse and loving congregation that is unified in the mission of Christ and engages with our local community, so that lives are transformed by a personal relationship with God and a personal call to further his kingdom both in Lexington, Kentucky and beyond.
In order to grow into our vision Park Church understands its mission to be in the business of making disciples of Jesus Christ. We believe this happens in a twofold way: on one hand it is only by knowing Christ and drawing near to him that disciples experience the joy and peace of his kingdom; and on the other it is the call of every disciple to share the kingdom with the world around them for the glory of God and the benefit of others.
The “rocks” that build the foundation of Park Church. We believe these help us to be a Jesus-centered church and guide us in how we operate.
1. Biblical Authority
We believe that the bible is the inspired living word of God, points to the life death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and is universal throughout the generations. Through it we find instruction meant to guide our lives and point us towards God’s kingdom. [John 1:14, 14:23; 2 Tim. 3:16]
2. Redemptive Grace
We believe that we have a loving God that actively desires a relationship with us. While our sin has kept us separated from him, he has provided the opportunity for redemption and a way back home through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. [Mat. 4:12-25; Col. 1:15-23; Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 6:1-23, 8:1-39]
3. Relational Community
We believe that God’s grace allows us to grow in our faith and overcome our shortfalls. One of the best places for this to happen is in relation with other imperfect people seeking the Kingdom of God. [Matt. 11:28-30; Acts 2:42-47; James 5:16]
4. Presence in Prayer
We believe that prayer is a crucial part of an intimate relationship with God. As God’s children we have opportunity to faithfully and humbly enter into his presence, opening up our soul to him. In this space, God reveals himself and his will through the person of the Holy Spirit. [Exodus 33:12-19; Psalm 139; Matt. 6:5-13; 1 Thess. 5:16-18]
5. Welcoming Environments
We believe that in our goal to share the kingdom of God, church shouldn’t be “about us” as believers, but rather to the glory of God and for the benefit of others. Creating and fostering a welcoming environment that enables all people to encounter Jesus and his gospel is critical to expanding the Kingdom. [Luke 13:14-16, 14:1-24; John 17; 1 Cor. 9:20-22]
6. Intentional Ministry
We believe that we are all given spiritual gifts, unique experiences, and a call from God to share the hope of the gospel. Ministry is meant to meet people where they are by utilizing our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness to further the kingdom of God. [Mark 2:13-17; Matt. 28:17-20; John 4:39-42]
